Hello! My name is Sophie. I’m a 25-year-old aspiring filmmaker who lives and grew up in Los Angeles. Mageo invited me to do a guest post to talk about myself and describe how I use their next-gen social network and game platform.
The thing I love about Mageo is that it combines the best of fantasy game worlds with a social media platform that can truly stand on its own, sort of like a Facebook alternative. I also like the fact that there’s a leaderboard where I can gauge my success against the community and also look at it to quickly discover and make friends with the most active people.
As a child I spent loads of time drawing and vividly recreating the fantastic characters I saw in my head. My favorite was Harry Potter. I spent many days drawing all those fantastic beasts from the series, letting my imagination run wild. I was even storyboarding scenes for my own creatures. I remember creating a fishy fish creature called Wettie and even made up a few stories about it. So, you can see why I became a filmmaker!
Mageo takes me back to that golden time in my childhood, when I was first discovering my creative spark. The unusual beast and monsters, and the strange foreign islands they inhabit, are an inspiration to me. I often visualize my own Mageo beasts in my mind, and this even helps me conceptualize some of my real-life work. I might even have to draw some of those creatures. I’m not saying they’re better than those in Mageo…well maybe they are…but that’s just my pride and competitiveness speaking.
Like the Classic Games of My Youth
In some ways, Mageo reminds me of the Tamagotchi, a Japanese handheld digital pet, that I received as a gift when I was a little girl. The gaming element is more of a skill game than an action-shooter video game, and doesn’t require too much of my time to maintain and nurture my presence there.
It’s a fun slice of virtual fantasy. I check in several times a day to make sure that my jobs and education are going according to plan, and play a few mini-games, travel around in my airship and explore all the various islands. And, of course, meet and compete against the monsters and beasts, as well as some cool virtual celebrities.
Most of the action takes place in the background, so it doesn’t require my constant presence like most video games. It’s just enough game for me but not too much, which nicely fits in with my busy schedule.
The social media element is also so intuitive. It’s easy for me to check in several times a day to read my feed and see what everyone’s up to, check out my groups, communicate with my friends, and network and find cool people who are also interested in the film industry. We don’t only share photos — we discuss industry news and help each other find inspiration and get their imagination’s fired up.
I Will Conquer Mageo First, Then it’s on to Hollywood
You’re probably curious about what I have achieved in real life…I’ve so far directed several music videos for local indie bands, have done a little bit of commercial work for different fashion labels, and am currently working hard to develop several scripts that I hope to direct. Not to give too many of my secrets away, but one of my scripts is my sci-fi opus, and I can say that Mageo has been a springboard for a few of the concepts I am weaving into my masterpiece.
My goal in Mageo is to colonize more islands and build and maintain an empire (somewhat similar to the main hero of my sci-fi masterpiece) while making as many friends as possible (which he doesn’t do).
Look for me on the Mageo leaderboards. I hope to see you there.
And keep your eye out for my directorial debut on the big screen!
