Gigi and Sophie, our two recent guest posters, made a connection on Mageo and started a friendship in real life. The two first met in the Mageo group that Sophie started for independent film buffs. Gigi is a former athlete who went on to become a sports agent; while Sophie is an up-and-coming music video director who aspires to make movies.
After friending each other, they began exchanging gifts (in-game items — something no other social platform lets you do), trading strategy tips for the game, and eventually started collaborating to help secure each other’s islands and build infrastructure there. They’re helping each other climb the leaderboards while building a social network based on a friendship that hopefully will last a lifetime.
Soon after they became Mageo friends, they discovered that they were liking most of each other’s posts and had much in common. So it only made sense to meet up IRL. Their instincts were right, and they immediately became great friends and are now planning to start collaborating professionally.
As you can see, they both enjoy chilling out, planning, gossiping, and exploring the vast world of Mageo together in real life. The game side of Mageo doesn’t require your constant attention to maintain a strong presence there and successfully climb up the leaderboards. This leaves them plenty of time to coordinate their social activities, maintaining their film group, posting news items and selfies to their walls, reading their feed to see what their other friends are up to, and making new contacts. Both of them also love collecting the many colorful items of clothing and accessories from the game and dressing up their avatars in cool, stylish outfits that they can easily share with their friends.
They both agree that freedom from algorithms, monitoring, and ad tracking are critical to how they want to conduct their lives online. That’s what brought them to Mageo in the first place. They wanted greater control over how they express themselves online and how their data is handled, and social platforms like Facebook and most of the others were seriously lacking in that regard.
Gigi and Sophie both have a competitive streak and Mageo provides an outlet for that, in a friendly, safe atmosphere that has rich rewards for all of their social and game activity. They can easily gauge their progress and success on leaderboards that can be viewed locally, globally or limited to just your friends.
For now, they are enjoying how easily the social and game sides of Mageo fit together and into their lives. They are planning to work together professionally, with Gigi expanding her sports agent work to represent Sophie as she tries to sell her scripts and get her first feature film produced.
